Rite 13

Grades 5-6-7

Rite 13 prepares and embraces the child who is approaching their teenage years by celebrating God's gifts of manhood and womanhood, by affirming the power of creative energy, and exploring the thoughts and disciplines which allow individuals to affect change in the world. The program teaches by word and example the principles of freedom, responsibility and friendship. Both Rite 13 and Journey to Adulthood lead to the discovery of self, sexuality, spirituality, and society. These are the goals that make up the community of the church and of the world. God calls us to live in accordance with God's word as it was revealed to us in the person of Jesus and continues to be revealed through the Holy Spirit. The group will come to understand how we as members of the church support and nurture one another along the journey. (Some of the above paragraph is taken from David E. Crean, Teaching Rite 13).

These goals are accomplished through scripture, tradition, reason and experience. Using these tools, the group will prepare for a significant rite of passage at age 13. This is not intended to be Confirmation, but a liturgical service to celebrate their life as teens.
